Whether you like it or not, summer is coming to an end. It's time to say goodbye to the heat, put away your sandals and bikini... to make room for warm jackets, boots and coats.

One of our brands, that I'm always super excited to arrive is SOIA & KYO... and I'm never disappointed! True to form, this time around I'm captivated by the newly-arrived collection.  Here I'll show you 3 of the new styles and the reasons I'm in love with them.

Last year, SOIA & KYO brought us an improved version of the popular leather jacket,  RYLEE; a classic favorite, fashionable yet timeless. This year, the leather jacket that makes us want to rock out is HEIDI. A short, collarless jacket with silver zippers, bringing out the rocker in all of us. The horizontal zipper is not only decorative, but allows you to take off the perlum hem, 2 jackets in one! As it is made of lambskin, a soft and supple leather, it can be worn both indoors and out. We love it!

The BRIHANA jacket has definite potential to become your all-time favorite. Made of a blend of polyester and viscose, it's extra-soft and stretchy. On top of that, it has large pockets to bury your hands in, or your keys and phone if you want to use it as an early autumn jacket.  And lastly, it's large lapel collar is as comfortable as it's charming. Perfect for a layered look!

The last, but not least, is the SAMIA, which much to the joy of everyone is back this season. SAMIA is a mid-length, double-faced, hand-made, wool coat. You'll feel like you're wrapped in a big blanket! Its impressive hood and large draped collar make it an essential coat for fall (or even spring!). A removable belt allows you to wear it 3 different ways, closed at the front, tied up at the back or open, without a belt. And we love the almond color.. just wow!

Yes to local designers and Vegan!

Featuring LOLË, Matt & Nat and Point Zero.

Whether for personal, social or ethical reasons, more and more people are wanting to support local companies (much to our delight), and also buy vegan (without any animal products). It’s not only food that can be vegan, fashion can be too! Today I’m bringing you two local winter looks which are both locally designed AND vegan!

My first look is perfect for the girl who likes to move. Whether heading to school or work, your two slogans you live by are: practical and comfortable. I must start by saying that I was very, very surprised by the comfort of the coat I chose (Point Zero 8618535). I felt like I was cocooned in my favorite quilt. What's great about it is that it has a removable inner liner that, once taken out, makes the coat lighter and ideal for mild weather in spring or fall. It’s insulated in polyester and not down, but I have to say I had to check to be certain as it was so warm and cozy! I completed the look with a large, infinite scarf (LOLE law0448, also available in black, navy or khaki - 100% acrylic) which added punch to this classic coat. For a final touch I added Matt & Nat's Brave backpack made of vegan leather and recycled materials.

The second look is on the simpler side too, but with a touch more chic. This time I opted for a long black coat from LOLE (luw0403). I realized after choosing this coat that it is isolated with down and that therefore, it is not 100% vegan. However the fur is synthetic (and removable) and all the materials used are either recycled or treated in an eco-responsible way, which is not to be underestimated! I completed the look with a 100% acrylic LOLE scarf (law0438) that has small silver details that go well with the more chic look that I was going for. The final touch is another Matt & Nat bag (because I’m in love with this brand). This time I opted for the Sheenan handbag (offered in black or carbon), for its practical size and original shape. The shoulder strap is also a big plus!

There you go, how to have a warm winter along with being eco-responsible. There are more and more fake fur coat choices showing up and I invite you to check them out.

How to chose the perfect handbag for you

Shown here with the new Matt&Nat winter collection

There's a lot of clichés out there about a woman and her handbag. Even if they might not all be true (at least not for all women), the handbag is still THE No.1 accessory for women. It's not surprising that the range is so large and so diverse. The thing is, with so much choice it's difficult to chose at all! Even with restrictions like "I want pink!" The choice is enough to make you dizzy. It's easier when the choice is aesthetic, you know when you have a party and want a bag to go with your new glittering dress (that you probably won't wear ever again - neither the bag nor the dress). But when you want a bag for every day, to go with all your moods, all your clothes and all temperatures ... It's a little less obvious! Of course we all have different tastes, but I'm going to sum up the essentials (or at least the most handy) things to consider when buying a new handbag.

    Shape / Size

From left to right : Scarlett , Hamel and Luna

From the large tote to the small evening bag, handbag sizes are infinite. When I shop for a new bag, I make sure to take the things I will always have in my bag - glasses case, wallet, key, make-up, computer, etc. This way, I can immediately try to fit my things in to make sure that the size of the bag is right for my needs and avoid being disappointed when I get home!

    Care

If you are on the lazy side or just really busy, I advise avoiding materials that require maintenance, such as leather. A genuine leather bag needs to be creamed and protected against exposure to water and sunlight. It's simple and quick maintenance, but it's very important not to forget to do so. Otherwise, your leather may crack or discolor quickly and that's really not what we want !! This is why I have a soft spot for Matt & Nat bags; they are made of vegan leather and require no maintenance.

    Inside (pockets, etc)

While some of us are tote bags lovers and love to simply "throw" stuff in their bags, anywhere as long as it is in the bag, some others (and yes that's me), want a little more organization. Oh the joys of having a bag with plenty of inside pockets! A place for your computer, one for your mobile, one for your keys ... some bags even have a built beauty kit! Woowwww .... For example, I love the bag illustrated above, with two zipped pockets plus a third one with a press stud and that has another small pocket for your cell phone. An organized person's dream !!

    Straps

    In the picture : Portia

Another important factor to consider when you are choosing a new handbag, are the straps! Personally, my handbag should absolutely be wearable on my shoulder. If there is not strap long enough to make it happen, it's not the bag for me! More often than not, bags come with an integrated short strap and a longer one that can be added. That's ideal! Otherwise, a few bags also allow the option of wearing it as a backpack, which can also be a big plus!

    Color

    Minka

Finally, the last criteria is purely aesthetic and yes I'm talking about color! From black to white or fuchsia pink to mint green, the choices are endless. If you want an every day bag and want to enjoy it as long as possible, I advise you to choose a neutral color; a canary yellow, for example, does not necessarily go with all your clothes and won't perhaps, be as adequate in winter. Without necessarily going for the black or gray, some colors are more sober and age better for example, khaki, burgundy and navy.

There you go! It's all in the bag ;)

    Happy shopping!

So you’ve found the jacket of your dreams, but you find that it lacks pizzazz? Don’t want to say goodbye to your old jacket but bring it back to its heyday? The answer in one word: accessories! Here are my favourites :

    The pompom winter hat

Everyone knows that covering your head is super important during winter. Frostbitten ears are never good! My first choice is the Ookpik World’s winter hat : Caribou. It's pretty, keeps you warm and available in several colors! What is really great about this hat is that you can remove the pompom (it's a snap!) Easy to wash the hat in the washing machine! If you really wanted to make it versatile buy 2 different colours with different pompoms and you can switch them! Plus, it’s lined with fleece around the ears to assure you the best protection against the cold. Perfect for winter!

    The Oversized Scarf

What could be more satisfying when it gets cold (except for a hot chai latte) than to bundle up to your nose in a big scarf? Good question! That's why my second feature is the oversized scarf. The days when you only could get 2 loops out of a scarf are gone! Check out the Vika scarf from Soïa & Kyo. Now that's a scarf you’ll wanna wear all the time, everywhere and for every occasion. What's even more wonderful is that it’s available in 4 colors for 4x more happiness! A great way to give another life to any jacket!

    The winter handbag

When the cold days arrive, it’s time to clear your closet of all summerness; clothing, sandals and tiny handbags. Winter requires a bigger but more important a practical bag. When it's -40 degrees, you won’t want to take off your mittens for any extended time, with a bag like the Sully from Rudsak, you can organize your things to monetize your time and avoid frozen fingers!
