  • How to make the most out of your new Spring jacket How to make the most out of your new Spring jacket

    Posted on by Dom Girard

The arrival of Spring is often a euphoric moment; the mercury rises, the sun shines as never before and the sidewalks are finally clean! We want to make the most of every moment, but finding the right jacket to wear can be a nightmare! Because yes it's exciting when things warm up... but there is a long "in between" moment where it's too hot for your winter jacket, but too cold for your favorite jean vest. So I thought I'd make a spring version of my blog One dress, two ways and present you two jackets with two ways to wear them  :)

For the first coat I chose the Arabella from Soïa & Kyo. It's a nylon coat with a large hood and a (removable) belt. It's not lined, but with a good fleece vest underneath, it's possible to wear it when it's cooler (and by cooler, I still mean above zero!) Also, the belt helps to prevent the wind entering from underneath.

The first outfit is for colder weather. I chose accessories of lighter color cause, yay, it's spring! we want light!! If it's not yet warm enough, you could even opt for a fur jacket to put on top, like the Rudsak Malverne. It's fashionable and oh so cosy!

The second look with the Arabella is much lighter. The coat can easily be worn open, either without the belt or tied in the back. It really is an everyday look, super easy to wear for work, school or heading to the grocery store! I love the touch of color that the Matt & Nat handbag adds! I could've opted for the powder blue bag or the mint one... all fun choices that add a little punch to your look!

The second coat I chose is a Point Zero reversible jacket (yes, loving the reversible !!). That's what attracted me to it. To have a springy floral jacket, but to also have a more classic option in the same jacket ... I love it!

Again, the first outfit is more cosy and warm, with the massive Lolë infinity scarf; truly the most comfortable scarf! (I could also have completed the look with assorted mittens and beanie). I opted for a big tote bag, perfect for slipping your mittens into when the day gets warmer ;)

Same coat, but as if by magic, we change it up. We end up with a super summer jacket with pretty flowers (not too flashy). I have arranged it with one of my favorites this season, Matt & Nat's small Koala Mumbai backpack, and some light and sparkly jewels to put a spring into your step :)

I'm totally a fan of multifunctional /multiseason items. Not only will you get a lot of value out of an item, but you've got less chance of getting bored of it!

And over to you, what is your favorite spring basic?

Statement necklaces and why I love them

Statement necklaces are nothing new. You can find them almost anywhere, and their popularity is on the rise... and I couldn't be happier! A great way to show your edgy personality while remaining classy. I'm not the kind of girl who wears lots of patterns... In fact, my wardrobe is almost exclusively composed of black. I love layering, mixing textures, but sometimes it lacks a bit of character... a punch. The statement necklace is my accessory of choice for these moments; it adds a little wow to your look. And if you're lacking inspiration for your outfit, no worries! Everyone's eyes will be drawn to the piece of art on your neck! That being said, let me share with you my three favorite styles as well as some tips to match them to your outfit.

My first category is necklaces that I like to call- Aztec inspiration, with silver chain(s) and turquoise stones. If you browse regularly on Pinterest or Polyvore, you've probably seen several ensembles featuring them, especially since last year where they have taken off in popularity. One way I love wearing statement necklaces and especially these are over a fully buttoned blouse. This is the style that I propose in the above pictures. Love this look... it rocks!

No need to have a special outing to wear a statement necklace. Here's my favorite casual look, for a quick run to the grocery store or a barbecue with your best buddy. It revisits the combo jeans / t-shirt by adding a touch of eccentricity/originality. If you're good with your hands, you can even let your creativity go wild and make your own necklace, like me in the picture on the right! Head to your favorite craft store and get a little crazy! Some felt, a needle and thread, a chain ... and a splash of imagination!

Finally, the last style that I propose is a little more dressed up. I love the simplicity of the right collar mixed with the originality of the layout of the two colors. You can also play it up with a necklace like the one on the left, with multiple levels and different types of pearls. With such a big style, if you have very long hair I recommend adopting an upstyle so your hair doesn't take away from the necklace. I also would opt for stud earrings rather than pendents. All eyes will be on you!

I I don't think there is any occasion where I wouldn't wear a statement necklace! They are my go-to to complete my outfits. They add originality and dynamism to your look... without effort. There are so many choices on the market that there is no doubt you will find the style that best suits your tastes and your personality! The last tip I can give you is ... Don't be afraid, Dare to stand out!!
